We have all had those moments when we need to get things done and the kids just will not let us. Important phone call, paying a bill, getting dinner on the table. We have all been there. I end up getting very frustrated. This is when I pull out the busy kits. Each kit is in a Ziploc bag filled with an activity. I try to make the activity something they can do on their own with little mess as possible. I have listed a few.

Provide items that can be sorted by color, beginning sounds, shape, or size.

Dice
Worksheet requires the child to draw the number of dots on the dice and to count them. Can use one or two dices depending on your child’s level.

Pipe cleaner
Flash cards
Child chooses a card and uses the pipe cleaners to create the shape, letter, or object on the card.

Straws
Scissors
Child uses the scissors to cut the straws into smaller pieces.

Child uses the tape to trace the letters.

Child uses the camera to take pictures of the items on the list.

Stickers
Letter or sight word cards
Child chooses a card. Use the book to find the corresponding letter or sight word. Once they find the letter or word stick a sticker on it.

Picture cards
Child matches or plays memory gaming matching the words that rhyme.
Kit #11 Beginning Sounds

Tape
Popsicle Sticks
Tape the popsicle sticks together. Draw a picture on the sticks. Take the tape off to create a puzzle.
